Scoring the Assessment

Adding Up and Interpreting the Score

Once the interview is over, the interviewer should add up the pints from the three columns:

  • 0 points are awarded for responses in column A

  • 1 point is awarded for each response in column B

  • 2 points are awarded for each response in column C

Total score is calculated by adding the total points from columns B and C. The interpretation of frailty severity can be found at the top of the page on the first side of the EFS form.

The advantage of the EFS is that not only does the Interviewer come away with a global frailty score, but also pinpointable areas for follow up. If frailty has been identified, the Interviewer should review the nine sections to identify what areas of frailty require monitoring and action. In this way, the multidimensional quality of the EFS will help guide care planning.
