What You Will Need Before Starting
Materials
You will need the following materials before starting:
Printed copy of the EFS Bedside Version (double sided)
Printed Copy of the Response Cue Sheet
Clipboard
3m Measuring Tape, or 3m Pre-Measured String
Small Pylon or other marker to indicate 3m from chair
Armless Chair or Side Chair Without Wheels
Patient’s Visual or Hearing Aids (if required)
List or Collection of Patient’s Medications
Setting Up the Room
When setting up the room, the following should taken into account
Appropriate seating for the Interviewee, accompanying family member/support and the Interviewer
An additional armless chair or side chair without wheels for the Timed Get Up & Go Test
Straight and unobstructed 3m path in front of the armless chair/side chair
A marker that clearly indicated 3m from the chair
Chair for assessor and chair for patient should be directly across from one another
Timing of the Interview
It is important to consider the timing of the interview before starting.
The Interviewee should:
Be at their best
Have minimized distraction
Have a chance to use the toilet before starting
The Interviewee should NOT:
Be acutely ill
Be overly medicated
Be experiencing uncontrolled pain
